| OUR OPINION: The high cost of low-priced prescription drugs

Every year at the big electronics expos, Apple and other computer giants dazzle the world with the quality and creativity of their products.
Why? Where do the companies get their entrepreneurial spark?
Simple: They get it from the fact that “building a better mouse trap” can make workers a lot of money or even fantastically rich.
Now, suppose the U.S. government stepped in and told Apple that starting tomorrow, it must cut all of its prices in half.
What would happen.
Well, we consumers would get cheap iPods and iPhones for awhile. But that’d be about all we’d get as Apple would lose its motivation to innovate and create.
That’s the risk the U.S. will run if we hobble our prescription drug industry by, in effect, importing European and Canadian price controls.
